As for the future: on the one hand the battle will be between electronically controlled and mechanical apparatus; on the other between sophisticated, expensive high technology, in an ever more cost-cutting concious market. While at the other extreme unencumbered divers will still be using the simplest of apparatus, extending the limits of human endurance, yet learning to observe the environmental considerations of which we are only just beginning to become aware.
